A Waking Dream - that drifts through memory, longing, hope and turmoil. Cellist Jennie Khan and pianist Justin Bird present a captivating program from the shadowed lyricism of Shostakovich's Cello Sonata in D minor, through the searching solitude of Hindemith's unaccompanied cello, to the smoldering passion of Liszt's Sonetto 104 del Petrarca and the aching stillness of Fauré's Après un Rêve. As in half-remembered dreams the mind wanders, questioning, where illusion and reality collide.

All proceeds from this performance will go towards Sistema Aotearoa. Based in Ōtara, South Auckland, Sistema Aotearoa provides free music education and opportunities for young people from age 7 onwards. Students learn string, brass and wind instruments through group sessions and orchestral playing. Taking part in a variety of events that develop both musical skill and a sense of community.
